FROST
Sunday night the National Weather Service issued a Frost Advisory for our area. Being in the middle of May I was hoping that we were done with cold weather. Sure enough, when I was outside Monday morning there was frost! Last week I was at a local farm supply store and was amazed at the number of individuals that were buying their flower and vegetable plants to get their planting done. These individuals were obviously taking advantage of the unusual warm temperatures that we were experiencing and may have been lulled into the false idea that all of the danger had passed. I am left to wonder how many people were scrambling around last night putting protective coverings on their plants to prevent any harm or danger.
The Bible also warns us not to get lulled into false sense that all danger is passed. We typically fall into this temptation when all of life seems to be going pretty good. Perhaps one of the most vivid portions of scripture warning us to be on guard is found in 1 Peter 5: 8-9.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
Peter warns us that we must be collected in our spirit and watchful because we have a pursuing enemy that is looking for the opportunity to destroy us. Satan is wise and often attacks us when we least expect it and in the places that we may think that we are the strongest. Peter tells is that we must resist Satan and remain firm in our faith.
Paul also warns us about the attacks of Satan and how to be prepared in Ephesians 6: 11-17,
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Just like individuals that covered their plants to keep them from being destroyed by the frost, we too must cover ourselves to keep from being devoured by Satan. While newspapers and bed sheets may protect our plants the believer needs a covering that comes directly from the Lord. Only be putting on the whole armor of God will we be able to withstand the Devil.
God Bless
